When I create art I’m trying to answer a question about something in the world around me that has caught my attention. My mixed media piece “Sharing Our Bounty” asks the questions “What does bounty mean in this scene?” “Are these undocumented people separated from the viewer by a barbed wire fence?” “Is the bounty a payment for their capture, or is it the bounty of gifts brought in by different cultures?” My Cranky Crones Series asks questions about how a patriarchal society influences the ways we perceive “women of a certain age” in America.

My work has been influenced by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, a founding member of the “Die Brücke” artists group in Dresden, Germany. I am drawn to vivid colors and movement, with an eye toward challenging presumptions.

Let’s Talk Art!

Do you have a suggestion for a painting? I’d love to hear it! I’m always on the lookout for topics to grapple with.
